Information for FTY Training Providers

Training Provider Information Statements provide an opportunity for Training Providers to publish information on the PSD Scotland website regarding their organisation, including contact details for arranging visits and work placements. The statement is intended to help candidates identify their preferences for Training Provider. Training Provider Information Statements have now been reviewed and details of Training Providers involved in the 2027/28 Foundation Training Year are now published on the TPI site which you can access on the link below:

FTY Supervisors

NES are responsible for approving all supervisors in the FTY programme, those acting in the designated supervisor (DS) and Designated prescribing practitioner (DPP) roles. The PSD Scotland FTY Supervisor criteria can be found here NES Pharmacy Foundation Training Year Supervisor Requirements- GPhC Accredited programme

FTY Programme Training plans

From the 2025-26 foundation training year onwards, every foundation training site that has a trainee pharmacist allocated must have a training plan to demonstrate how the training site will align to the training, assessment and supervision requirements of the foundation trainee pharmacist programme.

For the 2026-27 training year, training plans:

  • are required to be reviewed and updated for each training site to demonstrate opportunities for the trainee pharmacist to develop and demonstrate competence across the GPhC IET learning outcomes.
  • the PSD Scotland FTY training programme frameworks below can be used as a template to develop or update the training plan(s) for your organisation
  • the PSD Scotland FTY training programme frameworks template will prompt you to consider the Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD) final sign off criteria and PSD Scotland Pharmacy FTY Curriculum and Assessment Strategy
  • designated supervisor(s) should tailor the training plan to:
  • your training site
  • supervision arrangements
  • the PSD Scotland FTY programme the trainee pharmacist is following (full learning outcomes or interim learning outcomes)
  • training plans must be shared with the trainee pharmacist and uploaded to the Trainee Pharmacist Portfolio during Induction Block
  • training plans should be updated whenever there are significant changes: supervision changes, training site changes or any other major adjustments to training arrangements.

Employers should also consider the quality management measures which will be put in place to support supervisors who are responsible for the day-to-day support and development of trainee pharmacists. This should include communication strategies and any training and support that will be implemented by your organisation to supplement the PSD Scotland FTY training for supervisors.
