Successful Perioperative Careers Showcase

Successful Perioperative Careers Showcase
A recent perioperative careers showcase attracted over 60 attendees eager to learn about diverse opportunities across Scotland for people working in this field.
Perioperative care is provided to a patient before, during, and after a surgical procedure.
Hosted by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) on 3 June, the day began with a welcome from Anne Armstrong, Interim Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland. This set the stage for an informative event.
Participants then had the chance to interact with perioperative professionals, representatives from NES and Higher Education Institutions.
The breakout sessions provided valuable insights into the diverse career paths available in the perioperative sector in the following careers:
- Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Trauma Coordinator
- Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP)
- Anaesthetic Practitioner
- Recovery Nurse
- Scrub Nurse
- Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)
Sophie Given, head of programme, workforce education and career development (acute) said:
“It’s so important that patients get high quality care before, during and after surgery. This showcase was a great opportunity to share the broad range of careers available.
“Feedback from both attendees and facilitators has been overwhelmingly positive. Through a pre- and post-event survey, we were able to gauge the impact of the event. We’re pleased to share that there was a significant increase in attendees’ understanding of the various careers available and the pathways to entering them.
“We are already exploring the possibility of holding a similar event later in the year.”
