The National Ultrasound Training Programme (NUTP) team have been awarded Scotland's Radiography Team of the Year at the Society of Radiographers Awards 2025, recognising its innovative approach to ultrasound education and its impact on patient care.

Delivered by the NHS Scotland Academy, a partnership between NHS Education for Scotland and NHS Golden Jubilee, the programme is transforming how ultrasound professionals are trained by embedding education directly into clinical practice.

Since launching in 2022, NUTP has supported thousands of patient scans while training over 130 healthcare professionals from 12 Health Boards. It has also helped reduce waiting times, improve patient outcomes and support the Radiology Recovery Plan.

Kevin Kelman, Director of NHS Scotland Academy, Learning and Innovation, said:

"We are so proud that the amazing work of the National Ultrasound Training Programme team has been and celebrated by the Society of Radiographers at their annual awards in London.
"It's great to see a team who are having such an impact on patients and learners (sonographers and specialty registrars) in Scotland recognised in this way."

Clair Graham, Head of Programmes (Education) at NHS Scotland Academy, said:

"We're incredibly proud to see the National Ultrasound Training Programme recognised at a national level.
"This innovative approach is helping us train more sonographers, reduce waiting times and improve patient outcomes, while supporting staff to learn in a supportive and immersive way."

The Society of Radiographers Awards celebrate excellence in radiography across the UK, with the Radiography Team of the Year category recognising teams who use innovative practices to improve service delivery, patient care or education.
