New Turas Learn module on mental health inequalities launched

A new eLearning module on reducing mental health inequalities and helping to prevent self-harm and suicide is now available on Turas Learn.

Drawing on person-centred stories and encouraging ongoing reflection, the new module from NES and Public Health Scotland (PHS) aims to support learners to recognise and action plan for ways they can help to address inequalities through their work and approaches.

Aligned to multiple strategies – Mental Health and Wellbeing (Scottish Government, 2023), Creating Hope Together (Scottish Government, 2022), and Self-Harm (Scottish Government, 2023) – the ‘Towards better outcomes - reducing mental health inequalities and helping to prevent self-harm and suicide’ module is designed to support learners across sectors and settings who have direct and/or substantial contact with people who are at risk of mental ill health, self-harm, or suicide.

The module builds on, and enhances, the knowledge and skills developed in NES’s ‘Ask, Tell, Respond’ modules. Sitting within a broad context of resources and actions aiming to improve mental health and wellbeing at a population level, the module promotes rights-based care and a focus on time, space, and compassion (Time Space Compassion, Scottish Government, 2023) within a framework of understanding what inequalities mean and how inequalities can, and do, influence all our lives in different ways.
