New online hub ‘Your Med Future’ launches to inspire Scotland’s next generation of doctors

NHS Scotland has launched Your Med Future, a dynamic new section of the NHS Scotland Careers website designed to support young people from all backgrounds in exploring a future career in medicine.

Available now at www.YourMedFuture.NHS.Scot, the microsite will grow to become a cornerstone of NHS Scotland’s wider efforts to grow and diversify the future medical workforce. It brings together practical advice, role models, and accessible guidance to help pupils, educators, parents, and career changers navigate the pathway into medicine—whether they’re just starting to think about it or already preparing an application.Dr Emma Watson, Director of Medical Education, NES, said:

“Scotland needs brilliant future doctors from every community. Your Med Future has been built to open the door wider—making medical careers feel more possible, more relatable, and more supported for every young person, no matter their background.”

Supporting Equity, Inspiring Ambition

Your Med Future responds directly to longstanding barriers in access to medicine—particularly among young people who may not see the profession as ‘for people like them’.

The site offers: clear step-by-step guidance on getting into medicine in Scotland tools to help learners reflect on their strengths and values direct links to information on support across Scotland’s medical education ecosystem resources to support parents/carers, teachers and careers advisers.

A Collaborative Effort

The launch of Your Med Future is part of a national initiative, in collaboration with Medical Schools and the Medical Schools Council, to create a more inclusive pathway into medical careers. Complementing the work of widening access programmes, medical schools, charities, and schools across Scotland, the hub will evolve to include further resources and insights for applicants and their key career influencers. Fiona Fraser, Associate Director of Research, Innovation and Workforce Diversification, NES, added:

“We’re excited to see this resource become a go-to tool, informing schools, families, and young people across Scotland. It’s not just a website—it’s a signal that we’re reimagining what the future of medicine can look like, by improving access to relatable information that enhances confidence and approaches to considering and applying for a career in medicine.”

Further Developments

The first iteration of Your Med Future provides a starting point for further development of the hub to include:

  • inspiring real-life stories from medical students and early-career doctors
  • further resources identified through ongoing user research with young people, career changers, parents, carers teachers and other stakeholders to ensure that a career as a doctor is seen as attainable, attractive and accessible.
