Practice supervisors and ultimately learners will benefit from the new Rural Workplace Advanced Practice Supervision Hub. Developed by the National Centre for Remote and Rural Health and Care (NCRRHC) and the first of its kind in Scotland, the Hub’s overall aim is to support a well-trained workforce and help improve the health and wellbeing of remote, rural and island communities.

The Hub offers support to practice supervisors through a repository of information and educational resources to promote excellence in rural practice supervision. It captures existing knowledge to help them improve their practice and provides a forum for solutions to common problems. It also shares and encourages implementation of research and evaluation findings that contribute to improved rural practice.

Additionally, the Hub will help generate new knowledge to help supervisors transform their practice and meet the changing needs of remote and rural communities, whilst striving for excellence in practice supervision.

Learners currently undertaking the University of the Highland and Islands’ (UHI) new Rural Advanced Practice (RAP) MSc programme also stand to benefit.

They will receive support to become associate supervisors once they achieve their MSc in Rural Advanced Practice. This is another beneficial way of expanding rural practice supervision within primary and community care services.

An associated RAP Network has also been developed, which is a collaborative space specifically created in Microsoft Teams for RAP supervisors to interact, share experiences and provide peer support. It enables connections throughout the Scottish rural community and allows dispersed multidisciplinary RAP Supervisors, who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to do so, to link up, learn and develop together.

Additionally, the Network has a dedicated confidential channel for RAP Supervisors to discuss their own personal development, challenges, and ideas that can contribute to achieving excellence in rural practice supervision.

The Hub is now available on Turas Learn to all practitioners. We welcome feedback to ensure the hub remains dynamic and aligned with future, continuous development.
