Consultation opens on new Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Career Framework for Scotland

NES, on behalf of the Scottish Government, has developed a draft Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Specialist Career Framework for Scotland.

The Framework sets out a clear pathway for specialist IPC practice across health and social care, describing the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected at different levels. It aims to support professional development, strengthen workforce sustainability, and improve the quality and safety of care.

Its development has been informed by learning from the COVID-19 pandemic, the IPC Workforce: Strategic Plan 2022–24, and the evolving needs of IPC services across Scotland.

A national consultation on the draft Framework is now open. Feedback is welcomed from IPC specialist staff, managers, educators, workforce planners and organisations across all care settings, to help ensure the Framework is clear, practical, and fit for purpose.

Further information, along with the draft Framework and consultation materials, is available on the IPC Zone on Turas Learn.
