NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have launched a new Turas Learn site to inspire and spark interest in learning about mental health and wellbeing.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Learning Starters is for anyone interested in learning about mental health and wellbeing – including health and social care professionals, volunteers, and carers.

Designed to make it easier for you to find your starting point in sourcing learning resources relevant to you, the site signposts to resources and materials that will spark thought, conversation, and enable personal and professional development. It also introduces the concept of a ‘learning starter’: a short and engaging resource such as a video, article, or activity that encourages, and gives confidence, to begin or continue your learning journey.

The page can be used to navigate to learning resources covering a range of topics including:

  • Starting conversations about mental health
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Stress, anxiety, depression, and psychosis
  • Death, dying, and bereavement
  • Substance use
  • Mental health improvement and the prevention of self-harm and suicide
  • Self-care and supporting others

Mental Health and Wellbeing Learning Starters also features links to external resources such as the National Wellbeing Hub, NHS inform, and Lifelines Scotland. These, and other resources, offer a range of practical tools such as personal wellbeing plans and self-help guides.

A Turas account is required to access some linked resources, with users encouraged to contribute to the ongoing development of the platform, which will evolve based on user feedback, ensuring it remains relevant and responsive to the needs of its audience.

The Turas Learn application is a NES-owned online content and learning management system that hosts health, wellbeing, and social care tools and learning sites, eLearning modules, learning programmes, resources, and courses. Turas Learn has 100,000 registered users, over 120 learning sites, and offers over 700 eLearning modules.
