Former NES educational project manager for midwifery and director of the Scottish Multiprofessional Maternity Development Programme (SMMDP) Helene Marshall, was awarded an OBE for services to maternity education in Scotland in the Queen’s New Year Honours.

Prior to her retirement in 2021, Helene was with for almost NES for 13 years. During that time she developed the SMMDP which is Scotland's leading provider of maternity and neonatal clinical skills training and which now provides training for maternity scenarios and paediatric emergencies for around 1800 medics each year, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, GPs and more.

Helene said: "We teach maternity skills and things like neonatal resuscitation and high-dependency care to help all staff keep their skills up to date; and we continued through COVID, still reaching health boards all round the country."
