Leading Excellence in Care

NES and Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s (HIS) have created a new framework for nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals (NMAHP) for use throughout their leadership journey.

The Leading Excellence in Care (LEiC) Education and Development Framework aims to support the implementation of Excellence in Care (EiC) into practice. It does this by providing guidance for the education and development of NMAHP leaders, line managers or education providers.

Excellence in Care’s vision is to provide assurance whilst promoting the culture and conditions for the consistent delivery of high-quality standards of care across the NHS in Scotland.

HIS’s EiC programme and NES worked with stakeholders across Scotland to develop the new framework. It aligns to the EiC principles and the Four Pillars of Practice. It also offers the following benefits:

  • It recognises that NMAHP leaders work across a range of care environments and roles.
  • A self-assessment tool helps to identify individual and role-specific learning needs.
  • The framework complements local induction and preceptorship programmes and any organisational training related to policies and procedures.
  • It supports nurses, midwives and allied health professionals to lead teams to deliver high quality, safe and effective person-centred care.
