How ‘carer aware’ are you?

How ‘carer aware’ are you?

New learning resources will help staff working in health, social care, schools, and colleges and anywhere where they may come in contact with unpaid carers.

Unpaid carers may be family members, neighbours, or friends. More and more people find themselves in this role, often in addition to a full-time job. But often people don’t associate the support they are providing with the label 'carer'.

Having carers’ rights legislation is an important bedrock but without awareness of who are carers and how to include and support them, these rights can go unfulfilled.

These Equal Partners in Care modules are designed to help staff to identify, include and support unpaid carers in the services being provided.

Equal Partners in Care is a joint initiative between NES and the Scottish Social Services Council. Anyone who successfully completes each of these modules can apply for an Open Badge and gain recognition for their learning.

If you would like to hear more about how you can increase your knowledge and how your team could use these new learning resources please get in touch nes.carers@nhs.scot
