Celebrating a successful Year of Leadership

2021 heralded NES Optometry’s first ever Year of Leadership. Designed to support clinicians in their leadership journey, it has included a mandatory e-learning leadership module [1], a webinar series, a range of online workshops and a social media presence.

As the Year of Leadership draws to a close, the feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, suggesting that leadership training is useful and relevant to those working in optometry practice.

  • E-learning module: 87.6% (n=476) of respondents reported they were mostly or highly satisfied
  • Webinar series: 80% of respondents rated as good or excellent
  • Online workshops:
    • Improving Communication Using the Ladder of Inference - Leadership Workshop: 96% reported that the course was good or excellent.
    • An introduction to Using Quality Improvement in Practice: 82% rated as excellent
    • LAMP: 100% would recommend to a colleague

Importantly, this year has shown the power of collaboration across NES to deliver high quality resources. The continued enthusiasm and support of colleagues across NES has assisted the development and delivery of these resources.

A particular thank you goes to Graham Paxton (Head of Programme - Education & Management Development Workforce). Graham not only provided support in the design of the e-learning module, but also made a guest audio appearance in addition to running our first leadership webinar.

Number of participants:

  • Elearning module: n=1563
  • Webinar series: n=207
  • Online workshops:
  • Improving Communication Using the Ladder of Inference n=39
  • An introduction to Using Quality Improvement in Practice n=28
  • LAMP n=5
