Bridging two worlds: introducing the armed forces talent programme for NHSScotland

The Armed Forces Talent Programme (AFTP) is a new initiative for making the best possible use of the skill sets and attitudes of the military community, in the NHS in Scotland.

AFTP's Mission

The mission is simple - to recruit more members of the military community into NHSScotland.

We will do with a two-fold approach:

  • advertising and educating about the opportunities for service leavers, veterans, and their families in NHSScotland
  • educating the NHS to ensure we understand the unique skills and perspectives the community can bring

Our Achievements So Far

Since its inception, AFTP has hosted a series of events aimed at connecting military personnel and the armed forces community with NHSScotland – with more events scheduled.

At these events we communicated about working for the NHS as an organisation. And helped remove barriers by demonstrating how to apply using job train, for example.

In addition, we have been diligently collecting and analysing data to identify key areas of success and opportunities for improvement. This data-driven approach ensures that we can target our efforts effectively and provide the best support possible.

Education and Outreach

Education is at the core of our programme. We are committed to educating both our internal and external stakeholders about the benefits of recruiting from the military community. By sharing success stories and best practices, we aim to inspire confidence in our colleagues and collaborators.

Call for Ambassadors

To have the best impact, we are looking for ambassadors from NHSScotland who have successfully made the transition from the military community. We believe that these people are uniquely positioned to help us recruit highly skilled and motivated candidates and their families by telling their stories and answering questions from potential colleagues in the armed forces community.

The future

Your support and involvement in AFTP can make a significant difference in shaping the future of NHS Scotland. If you or someone you know fits the bill, we encourage you to step forward and become an Ambassador for this vital initiative.
