2020 NES Optometry Annual Conference – WENT VIRTUAL

270 optometric practitioners attended optometry’s 1st virtual national conference, led by Senior Post Graduate Tutor Madeline Harvey-Brown.

The virtual conference ran from 14 September – 4 October replacing the originally scheduled 4 October date.

As a profession with no protected CPD time, sessions took place at evenings and weekends to ensure accessibility and offered interactive CET/CPD points for optometrists, therapeutic optometrists, dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians.

There was a fantastic array of webinars and workshops covering a wide variety of educational topics.

Steve Madill, consultant neuro-ophthalmologist, NHS Lothian, educated practitioners on non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy with his fantastic webinar entitled “What lies beneath.”

Dr Maggie Woodhouse OBE from Cardiff University spoke about how optometrists can deliver accessible eye care in the community for children with disabilities.

The oversubscribed Binocular vision and Macula OCT workshops allowed practitioners to discuss real life cases with their peers online and learn how to successfully diagnose and manage many ocular conditions.

All the webinars were recorded and will available soon to view on the Optometry CPD platform on Turas.

Delegate feedback has been positive:

“All lectures and workshop I attended were fantastic. Amazingly knowledgeable lecturers who pitched it just right. Thank you”

“A well organised, well thought out and well delivered series of CET events! All topics covered were relatable to practice and will be extremely beneficial for future practise.”

“With a wide range of CET available online at present, the NES conference has stood head and shoulders above the rest.”

“Great conference-well done with all the effort to get it online!!”

“It was very enjoyable and well organised”

“Really enjoyed it and found it was more accessible to Optometrists who would struggle to attend normally.”
