NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
After graduating from Glasgow University almost 25 years ago Claire worked in The Netherlands and the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda USA as a molecular research scientist on various post-doctoral projects before returning to Scotland to embark on a trainee clinical scientist position within Microbiology. During this time, she developed an enthusiasm for Mycology and Parasitology and spent over ten years gaining expertise within these specialities.
Claire has been working for the past 4 years as a Consultant Clinical Scientist within the Scottish Parasite Diagnostic and Reference laboratories where she provides expert advice to healthcare professionals throughout Scotland on parasites and the diseases they cause.
She is also the Scientific Lead for Research and Service Developments at the Scottish Microbiology Reference Laboratories, Glasgow and lectures to university medical and science students in her role as honorary senior clinical lecturer. When she is not working, her other passions include learning to play the piano and going (very) fast on a motorcycle!
