Project Lift approach to leadership development comes alive!


Project Lift is the team and digital platform hosted by NES on behalf of NHS Scotland that is supporting fresh approaches to leadership that will enable transformation in health and care. 

We believe that the best learning about leadership happens through our live experiences, through our relationships with others – learning from and reflecting on our practice together. 

This is how we will develop the kind of compassionate and collective leadership needed for public services in Scotland – and how we will nurture collaborative working across the system. 

The most sustainable ‘solutions’ to the complex issues in health & care lie in the collective intelligence of all those involved. People across the community living daily with these issues, people working at all levels in the service, and people working in other parts of the system. 

And this is why – in our approach to leadership development - we talk about leadership to the power of three: 

  • Self – bringing all of our selves – our skills, our experience and our values - and being open to development; 
  • Team – learning together, in the live work, and taking our learning back into our own teams; 
  • System – understanding context, thinking systemically, learning how to work collaboratively across the system. 

Through the project lift community – and on leadership3 for aspiring executive leaders– there are opportunities for people to come together and work collaboratively on live, leadership work with the potential to make a real difference to health and care.
