New educational animated films from NES on Conversations about Death, Dying and Bereavement

The Supporting Scottish Grief and Bereavement Care workstream in NES has produced five new short animated films for health and social care professionals. Each animation deals with a different topic related to resuscitation, death, dying, end of life care and bereavement. The animations demonstrate how clinicians and other health and social care professionals can lead potentially difficult conversations with patients and families with more confidence.

Although the films are openly accessible they are not designed to be used or viewed by the lay public, including patients, relatives or carers. The Support around Death (SAD) homepage gives a warning that the website’s content is intended for health and social care professionals only and provides links to redirect other users to suitable alternative sources of information.

The five animations are:

  • Withdrawal of Active Treatment in an Intensive Care Setting

  • Talking and Being withPeoplewho are Bereaved

  • Stories for education: Living with Death

  • Supporting Families around the Resuscitation of a Baby or Child

  • Supporting Families around the Resuscitation of anAdultFamily Member

The animations address gaps in training provision for staff providing end of life / bereavement care and who are involved in supporting patients, families and carers.
