NES Knowledge Services Subscription Tender April 2019

NES provides a national digital library service for health and care staff in Scotland via The Knowledge Network. This is an essential national service on a once-for-Scotland basis, maintaining equity of access to the evidence and research staff require to make the right decision, for the right person, at the right time.

During 2017-18 there were:

  • 1,156,921 articles downloaded
  • 2,052,653 eBooks viewed
  • 1,955,571 Database searches
  • 70,168 Evidence summary searches

Knowledge Services manages these subscriptions and has now published an Invitation to Tender for resources form April 2019. This tender aims to maintain current strengths in decision support for practice and learning for all health and social care staff. However, prices have increased and budgets are declining, so some content and the way we provide access may have to change.

This tender process will present many challenges and opportunities and will involve consultation with users and NHSScotland Library and Knowledge Services, as well as analysis of usage statistics.

If you would like to be involved in this consultation or would like more information on the tender process, please contact Knowledge Services at

Via The Knowledge Network, staff gain access to:

  • Summarised evidence e.g. BMJ Best Practice, DynaMed Plus
  • Online journal articles and eBooks e.g. the Lancet, the BMJ, Oxford handbooks
  • A wide range of databases e.g. Medline, CINAHL, AMED
  • NHSScotland Library print collections
