Karen Reid appointed new CEO

Karen Reid has been appointed as our new CEO, with effect from 1 February 2021.

Karen is currently CEO at Perth and Kinross Council and the SOLACE portfolio holder for education. Before that, Karen has held leadership positions at Education Scotland, and the Care Inspectorate.

She has also led the partnership with HIS which developed the new rights based National Care Standards for Health and Social care. During this period she also worked with NES to use Turas architecture for the basis of a new digital approach in the Care Inspectorate.

Health Secretary Jeane Freeman said:

“I am sure that Karen Reid’s extensive experience within in the public sector will be an asset to NES as they continue to deliver education, training and workforce development to NHS staff despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.
“Karen has a range of skills acquired during her roles with Perth & Kinross Council, the Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland among others. Her knowledge and enthusiasm will enable us to keep building the skilled and sustainable workforce which Scotland needs as we navigate the current crisis.”

NES Chairman David Garbutt said:

Karen Reid said:
