Remote and rural

In 2007 the Remote and Rural Steering Group set out its vision for the development of a sustainable health system for remote and rural Scotland:

'Access to healthcare should be as local as possible for the whole population of Scotland, no matter where they live'. (Delivering for Remote and Rural Healthcare) RRHEAL was established in direct response and support of this by NES.

RRHEAL Objectives

  • to engage with NHS Boards in order to support current and future remote and rural health service education needs
  • to provide a linking force between health care services and education providers within Scotland
  • to develop and support appropriate and accessible education within the remote and rural healthcare environment
  • to provide and deliver a distributed programme of distance education - accessible and specific to remote and rural learners
  • Developing a co-ordinated managed educational support network for the remote, rural and island workforce
