The NES Health Improvement Team was involved in the ongoing development of training initiatives in the roll-out of ABI training across Scotland. As necessary, they also contributed to train the trainer events and enhanced learning days.

The Health Improvement Leads were members of the resource and training development national steering groups for both A&E and ante-natal.

The Health Improvement Leads also worked with the NES Pharmacy Directorate to ascertain the potential effectiveness of the roll-out of ABI training resources to Community Pharmacists.

NES worked closely with Health Scotland in continuing the development of a blended learning format for Alcohol Brief Interventions training. As part of this we were involved in re-configuring and re-writing content of the eBooks as the training has expanded to A&E and antenatal practitioners.

The eBooks are designed to be used as a low cost, accessible and intuitive alternative to the distribution and use of hard copies of pre-course reading. It is envisaged that the blended learning approach of training delivery will become more common within the NHS, leading to greater cost and time savings.
