Antimicrobial Stewardship Workbook

As part of the multi-professional team approach to antimicrobial stewardship there is increasing recognition of the critical role of nurses and midwives in antimicrobial administration, management and monitoring.

These resources are part of the intermediate layer of the Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway.  Further information about the pathway is available on the pathway webpage.

 

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG) have developed a work-based learning workbook arising from the findings of the survey conducted -Read the report from the survey.  In addition to the workbook, there are other resources available to promote and implement the education locally in practice.

Workbook

The purpose of this workbook is to support registered nurses and midwives learning around antimicrobial stewardship and support the care of patients with infections.  The workbook can be under taken in bite sized chunks, includes learning activities to be undertaken in practice and can provide outcomes and evidence for NMC revalidation and e-KSF.

Patient Safety Education Scenario

This provides an overview of the workbook, how it can be used and applied in practice for the benefit of patient safety, opportunities for evidencing educational impact to assist with e-KSF and NMC revalidation and ideas for local implementation strategies. Download the scenario (pdf).
