The Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway Foundation layer is available free of charge to all Scottish health and social care staff and to Higher and Further Education Institutions in Scotland for inclusion in any health and social care related course.

Staff from the independent and voluntary sector in Scotland may access the pathway free of charge.

The pathway is not available to those working outwith Scotland.

Access to the Online Pathway

The Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway Foundation Layer is available online via learnPro NHS and Turas Learn and is available to self-select without registering.

All Scottish students will automatically have access to the Foundation and Intermediate and Improvement Layer learning resources on Turas Learn. Further information available on Pathway - University and College Information webpage.

General Dental Services staff and health and social care staff from the independent and voluntary sectors

The above groups access all SIPCEP resources via Turas Learn.

Specific professional groups - Pharmacy staff

Pharmacists and pre-registration foundation trainees across all health boards (acute and community settings) who require completing clinical skills training which encompasses three of the SIPCEP foundation layer modules have been accessing these on Turas Learn from August 2018.

NHS staff

All SIPCEP and other HAI resources are available for NHSScotland staff via Turas Learn and learnPro NHS. Learners are advised to consult their line managers or local education leads for guidance on access.

NHS Grampian staff now access all SIPCEP resources via Turas Learn. NHS Shetland are also transitioning to Turas Learn.

learnPro access

Once you have signed into learnPro you can find the Pathway by typing IPC Education Pathway into the search box next to “My Learning”.  The title is NES: Scottish IPC Education Pathway – Foundation.  Simply select this and click ‘ADD’ to add this to your list of courses.

NES have produced a tip sheet explaining the structure on learnPro for ease of reference. Download the SIPCEP foundation layer structure on learnPro tip sheet.

Foundation layer – printable learning resources

The printable learning resources are based on each of the e-learning modules from the Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway Foundation layer.

The aim of the printable learning resources is to make the e-learning content available to learners who

  • do not have regular access to a computer and/or a network
  • do not yet have the necessary IT skills or confidence to complete e-learning
  • have different needs and therefore e-learning is not suitable for them.

The printable learning resources can either be

  • uploaded as a PDF file to tablets or other digital devices without internet access
  • printed (printing in black and white is sufficient.)

All navigational instructions on the screens in this document should be ignored.
We have given instructions on how to complete interactivities and questions.
A space has been provided for staff to make any additional notes after each topic.

Internet access will however still be required for the following:

  • Online feedback form and web links for additional resources. Staff should be enabled to use web links and complete the feedback form, if possible.
  • Online assessment. The online version of this resource consists of the e-learning module and a separate online assessment, and staff should be enabled and encouraged to complete this online assessment locally.

The printable learning resources can be downloaded from the Pathway - Support Materials webpage.
