Foundation Training

What is Vocational Foundation Training?

Foundation Training is a NES Pharmacy competency based training programme, accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, that takes approximately 2 years to complete. It equips pharmacists with a broad range of 'general' skills and enable them to gain a wide variety of experience within pharmacy practice.

Vocational Foundation Training is now available for Community, Hospital and Primary Care pharmacists. In some Health Board areas, a cross sector rotation is offered so that training occurs in both Hospital and Primary Care (in a GP practice). There is ONE framework (curriculum) within Turas Portfolio for Foundation Training. This is a combined framework with core competencies and sector specific competencies depending on your role. Assessment is tailored to the areas in which you have practised.

Pharmacists generally register for Vocational Foundation Training straight after their pre - registration year.
