Specialty Training

Specialty Training leads to inclusion on one of the GDC’s specialist lists. The training period depends on the specialty and varies from three to five years. 

Scotland offers programmes in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, Dental Public Health, Endodontics, Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry.

Recruitment 2020

Recruitment to Specialty Training and/or academic posts in Radiology, Restorative Dentistry, Special Care Dentistry, and Dental Public Health are recruited within Scotland by NES or by the Universities.

* ST1 Radiology – Glasgow - Applications are now closed for this post.


*ST1 Restorative x 2 - Glasgow and Edinburgh, Academic post in Dundee.

Due to COVID-19 Applications are not yet open for our Restorative Dentistry posts, details will be provided in due course.

*ST1 Special Care Dentistry - Academic Post, Glasgow University. Applications are now closed for this post.

Recruitment to Speciality Training in Orthodontics, Paediatrics and Oral Surgery in 2020 will be carried out on a UK-wide basis.
