Statutory and Mandatory Training
Organisations have a legal responsibility to provide a safe and healthy environment for employees, including subcontractors, and members of the public either in their care or visiting their facilities
One strategy for delivering this goal is to ensure a well trained and informed workforce who utilise their knowledge and skills effectively in their everyday practice - a broad aim for statutory and mandatory training.
NES is currently working with NHSScotland Health Boards to identify how statutory and mandatory training can best be developed and delivered in the most effective and efficient manner, by sharing good practice, reducing duplication of effort and collectively clarifying and benchmarking organisational responsibilities.
Based on ongoing work with Boards the following actions have been agreed:
- To develop a forum for statutory and mandatory training development
- To agree common definitions of statutory and mandatory training
- To identify a suitable repository or data base for storing mandatory training resources (e-learning and face to face resources)
- To develop a list of 'core' statutory / mandatory training
- To define nationally agreed learning outcomes for statutory / mandatory training topics
- To offer clarification of timescales required for refresher / update training for statutory / mandatory topics
