Flying Start NHS
Flying Start NHS is a web based learning programme for Newly Qualified Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals.
Flying Start NHS is a unique web based learning programme designed to be completed by Newly Qualified registered practitioners within their first year into practice to enhance confidence and capability. The programme is learner directed and designed to encourage good practice development for a life long learning journey to develop confident, capable health practitioners within Scotland.
When newly qualified practitioners are effectively supported to
complete
Flying Start NHS they can work within a safe scope of practice,
work confidently with patients and carers, and be effective members
of multi-professional, multi-agency teams and care home sector they
work within.
The Flying Start NHS programme for Newly Qualified Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals is most successfully undertaken with the support of a mentor or peer group, the programme is designed to be easily followed with completion of a hard copy portfolio of work to be submitted and reviewed by a mentor / line manager within the first year in practice. Portfolio completion should be monitored on an ongoing basis to achieve best results from the learning programme.
By mirroring the NHS KSF development review process, Flying
Start NHS offers a structured and integrated approach to
development for both the newly qualified practitioner and their
workplace mentor.
Flying Start NHS is widely used within NHSScotland and we are very
proud of our programme which has now been undertaken by
practitioners within NHS England and Queensland Health in Australia
with their website launched in June 2012 for Newly Qualified AHP
practitioners.
In order to keep our site contemporary and innovative, Flying Start
NHS regularly undergoes review such as updating the learning units
to ensure that they reflect current policy documentation,
information governance and educational governance arrangements. In
addition we have created a new area located within the home page
providing guidance on completion of the programme and next
steps.
Recent video footage of completer events within NHS Boards is also
housed within the homepage and provides testimonials and hints and
tips from users of the learning programme so please have a look at
these.
Flying Start NHS has also already been formally evaluated with a further Phase 2 evaluation carried out by the University of Worcester in 2011/2012 for further information on this evaluation please click on the link below.
