Health Protection Legislation

In response to a request from Scottish Government NES/HPS developed resources to support the implementation of the Public Health etc (Scotland) Act 2008.  There are currently two resources:

a) The 'Public Health etc. (Scotland) Act 2008 - educational resource for health protection leads' aims to support efforts by health protection leads in health boards and local authorities to ensure that the health protection workforce attains a level of preparedness and competence in relation to their powers and duties under the Act.

It does so by providing a range of resources and templates to facilitate the design, implementation and evaluation of local workshops for the health protection workforce staged by health boards and local authorities (either individually or collaboratively).

Health Boards and local authorities are free to adapt the materials, to suit their own local circumstances and experiences.

b) The ' Decision-making challenges specific to health protection - educational resource for health protection teams' resource has been prepared by NHS Education for Scotland and Health Protection Scotland to help prepare Health Board and Local Authority staff to ensure that the health protection workforce attains a level of preparedness and competence in relation to their powers and duties under the Act.

This resource offers participants an opportunity to demonstrate that they can integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of the Act within a practical learning environment. This new resource offers participants an opportunity to demonstrate that they can integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of the Act within a practical learning environment.

The workshop aims to:

  • support individuals and teams to make professional decisions, problem solve and produce solutions
  • provide an update on general principles of report writing
  • highlight specific issues in relation to writing reports for Central Legal Office (CLO)

The resource also provide CD's containing supportive resources that can be used by workshop organisers in planning delivering and evaluating the workshop.
