Collective Learning, Change and Improvement in Secondary Care Teams (poster, 2009) [PDF]
This poster, by Suzanne Bunniss and Diane Kelly, gives an overview of this project. This involved observational work which was conducted with two NHS ward teams (chronic and acute) at one hospital site in Scotland during 2008. The aim of the work was to explore how collective learning, change and improvement happen in secondary care teams. Participants include a wide range of clinical, nursing, ancillary and clerical staff.

"The Learning Practice": Piloting a Facilitated Learning and Quality Improvement Programme with GP Teams in Scotland (poster, 2009) [PDF]
Last year NHS Education for Scotland piloted a facilitated learning quality improvement programme with eight multi-disciplinary general practice teams in the West of Scotland. This programme is distinguished by a specific approach to quality improvement, the overall aim of which is to facilitate health-care teams as they collectively identify the key challenges they face and generate their own solutions for change in their local context. This contrasts with top-down, 'one size fits all' approaches to quality improvement. To date more than 150 healthcare staff have participated in the Learning Practice including administrators, nurses, doctors and allied professionals (e.g. health visitors).
