Preventing Ventilator Associated Pneumonia
Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is the most common infection that intensive care patients acquire during their illness. Up to 30% of intubated patients may develop pneumonia
VAP may have serious consequences. Patients become more ill and are likely to have worsening oxygenation and may deteriorate with circulatory shock and renal failure. There is an associated increase in length of stay in intensive care and perhaps an increased risk of death.
