Outbreak Management

The course focuses on the application of national and local policies, evidence in best practice, risk management and integrated team communications and reporting protocols.

Various methods for delivery of information are used in the programme which include videos, talking heads and minutes of meetings.  Protected time will be required to complete this course.

Target Audience

The course may be undertaken by Infection Control Practitioners or individuals working through it by themselves or by Infection Control Teams working as a group.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Highlight preliminary alert signals
  • Identify the specific actions required during an outbreak of infection (or HAI) by the individual infection control professional
  • Stipulate any additional patient, healthcare worker or visitor safety control measures as required
  • Highlight systems required for collection, analysis and presentation of data
  • Assess and evaluate outcomes of control measures
  • State requirements for effective communication systems both internally and externally
