MRSA - A Clinical Scenario

The online module assists healthcare staff with the management of patients with MRSA through a scenario based approach.

This resource is provided for all Scottish NHS and non-NHS health and social care staff.  It is also available for students in Scottish Higher or Further Education Institutions.

Target Audience

The scenario is designed for self-directed learning and has been produced for doctors, infection control managers, infection control nurses, specialist nurses and clinical staff with an interest in the management of patients with MRSA.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the scenario you will be able to:

  • contribute to the early assessment of infection
  • participate in clinical investigations and interpretation of results
  • be aware of the criteria associated with appropriate antibiotic treatment
  • understand the risk factors associated with MRSA
  • describe infection control measures relevant when managing patients with MRSA
  • recognise important differences between colonisation and infection.

Further Information

The anticipated learning time for this tutorial is one hour.  The assessment comprises multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%.   On completion of the course you can print off a record of learning as evidence for your portfolio or training record.
