HAI Mandatory Induction Training Programme

To support the implementation of the HAI Framework for Mandatory Induction Training in Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) an online HAI Induction Programme was developed in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire.

The course is designed to be self directed and is based on the Standard Infection Control Precautions (SICPs) and includes the chain of infection.

Registration

The programme is accessible to all NHS Scotland staff at no cost and is web based only.  It is available to junior medical staff through DOTS online but is also applicable tother members of the multidisciplinary team.

Target Audience

The target audience for mandatory induction training in HAI include:

  • All hands-on clinical staff who have input to direct patient care
  • Staff with minimal patient contact
  • Staff who have contact with patient-related equipment
  • Contracted/voluntary staff engaged in any of the three categories above

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the programme you will be able to:

  • Understand the infrastucture for infection control within organisations
  • Describe ways of preventing the transmission of micro-organisms with particular reference to hand hygiene
  • Define the chain of infection
  • Discuss the importance of personal vigilance and high standards of care in breaking the chain of infection
  • Outline factors that increase patients susceptibility to infection
  • Give an account of the means by which micro-organisms can be transmitted to a susceptible host
  • Apply knowledge of standard infection control precautions to clinical practice.
