Domestic Services Education
NHS Scotland has long recognised the important role that Domestic Services play in supporting front line healthcare
In addition to providing patients with a clean, comfortable and reassuring setting, domestic service staff ensure a well maintained environment, preserving the life of the building fabric, furnishing and equipment. This ultimately inspires confidence in patients and visitors, as well as staff.
In 2006 Health Facilities Scotland supported by NHS Education for Scotland were asked by the Scottish Executive HAI Task Force to develop a National Educational Framework for Domestic Services.
This subsequently resulted in the development and publication of three resources.
- An Educational Framework which will help inform the education and training required by staff.
- A Domestic Assistants/Housekeepers Workbook to record training and personal development.
- A Managers Guide for Domestic Services Managers responsible for the implementation of the aforementioned workbook.
