Paediatric and Neonatal Education

NES are supporting the educational development of an advanced practice nursing workforce within specialist children's services.

In July 2013, NES awarded the contract for development and delivery of Paediatric and Neonatal Nurse education to a collaborative, led by Edinburgh Napier University, in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland and supported by local Health Boards.

The following education was developed and is currently being delivered over a three year period:

  • Qualified in Speciality (QIS), SCQF Level 10, (60 students over 2 years)
  • MSc Neonatal Advanced Practice, SCQF Level 11, (30 students over 3 years)
  • MSc Paediatric Advanced Practice, SCQF Level 11, (40 students over 2 years)

An external evaluation of the three NES funded educational programmes was commissioned, and will be undertaken across three years by a team from the Univeristy of Worcester.
