How do I register to start Foundation or Expert Professional Practice (EPP) Training?

VT Foundation training is now available for Community,Hospital and Primary care pharmacists. In some Health Board areas a cross sector rotation is offered so that training occurrs in both hsopital and Primary Care ( in a GP practice). There is ONE framework (curriculum) within the NHS eportfolio for Foundation training. This is a combined framework with Core competencies and Sector specific competencies depending on your role.Assessment is tailored to the areas in which you have practised.

Foundation training is the development of 'General' Foundation skills. After Foundation training there are some Expert Professional Practice (specialst modules) that are in development. Currently there are 3 EPP modules that are available.

Pharmacists generally register for VT Foundation Training straight after their Pre - registration year.

Registration is

  • online, TWICE per annum and opens on 1st July and 1st December to start training on 1st September and 1st February respectively
  • The closing date for registration to enable you to start training on 1st Sept is, 9am on 25th August 2017
  • The closing date for registration to enable you to start training on 1st February, is  9am on 25th January 2018
  • Registration is for trainees.

Each VT Foundation Pharmacist should have a professional support pharmacist / tutor who has been approved by NES Pharmacy to be part of the training programme.

Ideally tutors should register throughout the same time period as Foundation pharmacists. However, tutors may register at anytime throughout the year but will still need to attend  a regional induction event and complete the online tutor training modules before they start tutoring a trainee.

After registration VT Pharmacists and new PsPs will receive (just before the training start date) a Welcome mail that provides information about what you need to do to get started with your training/ supervising.

At this time, you also need to book to attend an induction session (via Portal), which is generally held 2-3 weeks after the training start date. Induction sessions are being held regionally from August 2017. Dates should be available soon.
