Who is this training pilot for?

This training is for pharmacists who:

  • are working in community pharmacy
  • have not started/ do not hold a prescribing qualification
  • have not previously completed foundation training in another sector

What is the aim of the training?

The aim of the training is to:

  •  support your career progression in community pharmacy
  • provide a structured training programme to enable you to deliver pharmaceutical care to your full potential
  • NES will work closely with you and provide support and guidance as required
  • will monitor and evaluate the training provided and evaluate your perception of achievement of the tasks (competencies) detailed in the programme

What is involved in the training?

  • You will register your interest to start training on 1st Sept, by following the link on the NES website and if successful will follow a training framework that will help you develop at your own pace, progressively, over approximately 2 - 3years
  • You will complete the NHS eportfolio with evidence from your everyday practice that demonstrates achievement of the tasks e.g. participating in a LES
  • You will need to attend an induction morning to learn about the training programme and ensure that you can get started, attend 2, one - day leadership courses and a morning or afternoon session (for your assessment after ~2 - 3 years)

If I am successful in my application for the pilot what happens next?

  • Applicants will be emailed by NES by the 1st of July 2017 as to whether they have been successful in joining this pilot. Unsuccessful applicants will also be informed.

When you register to start training you will:

need to book to attend the induction session ( via Portal) on 20th September 2017, at NES, 2 Central Quay

be e-mailed details of how to access your eportfolio where you will be able to view the work that you need to undertake

be expected to plan how you will achieve the competencies detailed in your eportfolio

be expected to start to look at the Resources within eportfolio to help you achieve the competencies

What are the benefits of undertaking the training?

VT tutor registration

Ideally tutors should register throughout the same time period as Foundation pharmacists. However, tutors may register at anytime throughout the year but will still need to attend  a regional induction event and complete the online tutor training modules before they start tutoring a trainee.

The criteria to become a tutor/ Educational Supervisor for VT Foundation or EPP training are detailed below.

It is important that you register at a training date  prior to when you will have a trainee starting training to allow time for completion of induction and Core training materials. i.e. you should register prior to the 1st Feb training start date, to start Supervising a trainee in September of the same year.

On completion of the Core training you should inform NES Pharmacy.

The content of programme is accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
