Edinburgh , Lothian Teach and Treat Clinic (LOTT)
NES Optometry recently established a UK, and possibly world, first Optometry Teach and Treat Clinic (LOTT) in Edinburgh at NHS Lothian's Lauriston Building on Lauriston Place where community Optometrists attend a clinic to examine and manage patients normally referred to an Acute Eye Clinic, under the supervision of experienced Ophthalmologists. Initial results from the first audit of the impact of the Lothian Optometry Teach & Treat Clinic on Optometrists' behaviour back in the community are very encouraging. This educational stream is directed towards improving the standard delivery of care in the community and so reducing unnecessary referrals to hospital wherever possible and safe.
