East - Dundee
Dundee was the first regional training centre offering GOS contracted practitioners in the East of Scotland a local education base. The development of this innovative Project is managed by NES Programme Director Dr Janet Pooley as part of the National Optometry Strategy.
The centre at Ninewells Hospital is run for NES by The University of Dundee. The University provides clinical skills training for other health care professionals including nurses and pharmacists, and since November 2009 it has also been running Optometry courses. NES has equipped the centre with a full range of state of the art equipment to allow optometric hands-on training in small groups. Ian Jarvis, a local community Optometrist, manages the centre and develops the training programmes and courses for NES.
