News: New fully funded qualification for Optical Assistants in Scotland now available

The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have launched a Level 7 Certificate in Optical Care for Optical Assistants in Scotland following the success of the Level 5 Certificate in Optical Care introduced by the WCSM and NES in 2010.

As part of its Delivering Quality in Primary Care policy, the SGHD has recently allocated £6.6m for an IT network which will enable community Optometrists to refer patients' case notes and photographs of relevant eye conditions to a hospital for advice on whether formal referral is necessary.
