Optometry

Strategy

The NES Strategy for Optometry 2009-2014 is aligned with the corporate strategy for NES. It was presented to the NES Board in 2009 and is regularly reviewed to ensure that it remains a current and working document.

Optometrists within Scotland are providing a level of patient care which focuses on identifying sight threatening disease early, and treating and managing more minor ocular conditions within the community.  Our strategy at NES aims to up-skill and support Optometrists to meet the demands of the General Ophthalmic Services Contract in providing the best possible care to their patients.

We are:

  • Continuing to develop clinical skills
  • Providing innovative and supportive CPD
  • Rolling out education to staff who support the provision of service
  • Linking to other workstreams e.g. Orthoptists, Pharmacists, General Practitioners

With a focus on regional development and practitioner focussed learning, NES aims to develop a quality workforce.  A team of regional Tutors appointed in Summer 2011 will further this strategy.
