Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to apply for funding for Return to Practice, what do I need to do?

If you are interested in accessing funding for a Return to Practice programme you should first review the programme availability and suitability at one of the three Scottish providers and decide which is best for you. During the application/selection process at your chosen university, you should discuss the availability and suitability of the different placement/employment options with the programme staff.

To access funding support to cover your programme fees you must notify the programme providers at the time of applying and your application will then be reviewed against the inclusion/exclusion criteria. All applicants, whether funded or not, will be subject to joint interviews with university and placement partners before commencing a programme.

I've started or completed a Return to Practice programme prior to 1st April 2015 Can I access this funding supportretrospectively?

No, retrospective funding is not available.

I did not originally register in Scotland, can I apply for this funding support?

Yes, if you have previously been registered with the NMC, but this has lapsed, you may apply. However, you must make a commitment to employment in Scotland upon successful completion of the funded RtP programme.

I wish to apply for a Return to Midwifery Practice programme. Why are the eligibility criteria different?

In Scotland, there are still more new Midwifery graduates than there are available posts. Therefore, we are still providing support to find these new graduates posts under the One Year Job Guarantee programme.

However, there are situations where some employers are finding it difficult to recruit to a particular midwifery post (e.g. Remote and Rural Practice). Therefore, where a RtMP application is explicitly linked to the 'employment model' by a Board, this will be supported.

I'm currently employed as a registered nurse/midwife, but forgot to renew my registration. Can I access this funding support?

No, the responsibility for maintaining your NMC Registration lies with the individual registrant and is a core professional responsibility. You will need to access a RtP programme to return to the register, but will not be eligible for funding support through this scheme.

I'm keen to re-activate my registration, but don't want to take up employment in Scotland just now. Can I access this funding?

No. Access to the funding support is linked to employment in Scotland and you will require to demonstrate active commitment to seeking and taking up employment.

I still have some questions, where can I get some advice?
