Nursing and Midwifery

One Year Job Guarantee (OYJG) Scheme

This is a Scottish Government initiative to support transition into employment and to maximise the opportunity to build on the clinical experience gained by nurses and midwives during their pre-registration programme.

Under this initiative, an important new development has been the introduction of Internships.

Internships

Internships are available to newly qualified nurses and midwives to help consolidate and develop their clinical experience.  The internships will involve part-time (22.5 hours per week), rotational employment in clinical practice in one of the territorial NHS Boards within NHS Scotland.   Rotational placements may include working within community nursing, public health nursing and independent care home settings.  The Internships offered will be fixed term for one year (or a proportion of that year) and support completion of Flying Start NHS®.   As the OYJG Internships are a national initiative and cannot guarantee a position locally, new registrants will be matched with intern opportunities across Scotland.
