National Evaluation of ECCF Pilot

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is pleased to publish the Case Study Evaluation report from the Pilot of the Early Clinical Career Fellowships for Nurses and Midwives in NHS Scotland.

Case Study Evaluation Report - ECCF Pilot - (July 2013)


The pilot stage of ECCF ended in March 2013.


This report presents case studies of four fellows who have completed the Pilot of ECCF and shares the opinions 6 managers/clinical coaches. It also includes includes a literature review and findings from the National Celebration event held in November 2012.


This report forms part of an evaluation strategy which includes a longitudinal study. It will also inform the next cohort due to commence in August 2014.

Clinical Leaders of the Future : Evaluation of the Early Clinical Careers Fellowship

Pilot Programme ( June 2010)


A research team, led by Professor Rev Pauline Pearson from Northumbria University, was commissioned by NES to undertake this work.
  The evaluation was conducted between 2008 and 2010.

The evaluation report provides a number of key messages which have implications for the future leadership development of the nursing and midwifery workforce in Scotland as well as the UK and beyond.  In Scotland the recommendations from the report will inform future discussions within NES, the Scottish Government Health Directorate, NHS Boards and Higher Education Institutions.
