Specialty training boards
Supporting NES to commission and deliver Specialty Training
Seven Specialty Training Boards and a Board for the Scottish Foundation School support NES and provide advice the provision of deanery, national or Inter-deanery programmes in their area of Specialty Training.
The Specialty Training Boards are:
- Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine
- Diagnostics
- Medical Specialties
- Mental Health Specialties
- Surgery
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics
- General Practice, Public Health Medicine and Occupational Medicine
- The Scottish Foundation School
The Chair of each of these Boards is appointed by NES. The Boards are advisory and report to NES via the Medical Director and the Medical Department Executive Team (MDET). Defined Terms of Reference provide guidance and recommendations for the Specialty Training Boards.
Specialty Training is offered within the overall numbers of training placements for each Specialty as defined by the Scottish Government and confirmed by NES.
