Our Foundation programmes

Programmes are grouped by Deanery and medical school region

Disclaimer *Read This First*

We believe that the work pattern in some programmes will change between now and August 2012. The principal reasons are:

  1. The need for all Foundation posts to be rota compliant.
  2. Local organisational circumstances - for example new hospital developments.

Linked Applications

Linked applications received from the UKFPO process will remain in force throughout the SFAS process. Further information available in "How to Apply" and in FAQ sections.

Training Abroad

With effect from August 2010, Scotland will not support applications for Foundation training abroad, either in year 1 or year 2. This is due to the requirement to quality manage all programmes to GMC standards, which cannot be guaranteed abroad.

Regional Programmes

Please note the graph of competition ratios (pdf) from last years allocation process. This shows  a comparison between the 1st three choices of programme ranking, by Deanery.

Also available in the data beside the graph is information relating to lowest scores allocated to each programme in the 1st run of the allocation process and the number of posts available. This and further graphs are available on the "How to Apply" page

F1 Allocations to exact Individual Programmes will take place later in the year when you will be contacted and given the opportunity to express a preference.

This will be for the full two year programme if allocated to the East or North regions.

If you are allocated to the South-East or the West you will be allocated for F1 only and allocation to F2 will take place in discussions with your FPD during your F1 year.
