Foundation training

Foundation Training is a 2 year planned programme of supervised clinical practice designed to bridge the gap between undergraduate medical education and specialty training

Foundation Training

Recruitment to the 2 year programmes in the school is undertaken as part of the UK wide recruitment process (external site).  Academic foundation programmes are also available and are recruited to prior to the national recruitment process.

The Scottish Foundation School provides a wide range of programmes offering a unique experience covering different types of populations, teaching hospitals to remote and rural hospitals, many specialties as well as geographical diversity. The School delivers a taught programme to ensure trainees can meet the requirements of the curriculum and all Foundation Year 2 doctors undertake the recognised ALS course.  All trainees have access to a named Educational Supervisor and utilise an e-portfolio and e-learning to support their training and provide evidence of their progress.

These pages provide information to all potential applicants as well as current trainees.  We hope you find the site useful and that is answers any queries that you may have.  If you however, you can't find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact us.
