Healthcare Science Notice Board <3> Winter 2011

Issue 3 of Notice Board highlights national initiatives led by NES Healthcare Science during 2011 and gives a perspective on developments next year. The Healthcare Science community comprises a wide range of professional groups, identities and titles. Whilst NES central support must focus on core training grades and priority areas, there is also an imperative to build common approaches as to how we support staff, describe the workforce and the expectations we have of our scientists. These ambitions are also reflected in the UK Modernisation (issue 2). This edition reports the progress made in identifying shared attributes of scientific staff at a postgraduate level – termed the Common Core List (CCL) – which also contributes to a greater collective identity across the existing groups. We expect CCL to feature in the dialogue around how Scotland’s training arrangements fit at a UK level, including with the new Academy for Healthcare Science, reported later in this edition.
