AHP Academic Heads Strategic Group

To provide an opportunity for academic heads of AHPs in Scotland to discuss strategic issues pertinent to Allied Health Professions particularly in relation to learning and teaching, practice, research and the external environment

The key focus of the group is partnership working at a strategic level and to ensure effective working this group is part of a wider network of AHP groups/fora which link with NES.

Typical business discussed at Group

Government initiatives, National developments e.g. Practice Placement Agreements with Health Boards, Fitness to Practice, Educational developments, Workforce planning, Cross HEI working eg supporting practice educators/practice educator training, Interprofessional Education and Working

Who is represented on the Group?

The core membership of the new group comprises the Deans/Academic Heads of AHPs of HEIs in Scotland and key stakeholder as necessary.

Key stakeholders (external to the HEIs) such as NES, the Scottish Government, NQIS, NHSiS will beinvited to attend or may themselves request to attend and/or submit papers when relevant mattersneed discussed etc. One meeting per year will include all stakeholders to ensure close partnership working and strategic planning for the following period.

The group nominate a member to join the NES AHP Advisory Group

Can / How do AHPs become members of the Group?

Only AHP Academic Heads or their nominee and Stakeholders e.g. NES, SG, NQIS, NHSiS ortheir nominees can be members of this group.

If an AHP wanted something raised in your Group, how would they go about this?

Although this group is for Academic Heads and Stakeholder Groups any AHP (Education or Practice) who wishes to raise an issue which they feel the group could help with or should discuss they can forward their item to any of the AHP Academic Leads who will put the matter on the Agenda. A response will be sent to the person who raised it following the meeting.

Where would an AHP get more information about the Group/Network?

This information has yet to be decided. The first meeting of the renewed Academic Headsgroup took place on 16th May 2011.
