Dr Ronald MacVicar
Director Postgraduate General Practice Education
I am the director of Postgraduate General Practice Education for
the North of Scotland. As such I have a wide-ranging responsibility
for GP specialty training in the five health boards that constitute
'our patch' (Grampian, Highland, Orkney, Shetland and Western
Isles). I also have some role in the training and education for the
qualified GP workforce, including leading the Practice-based Small
Group Learning (PBSGL) programme and responsibility for the rural
fellowship and paediatric scholarship programmes. I am a practising
GP and have worked as a partner in a city centre practice in
Inverness for the past 25 years.
As part of the North of Scotland Deanery team, I share
responsibility for championing and supporting remote and rural
education and within the GP field, as well as the popular and well
evaluated post-CCT rural fellowship scheme, I am leading the
development of a national rural-track GPST programme that will be
included in the 2012 recruitment round.
